Medicai supports the digitalization of public hospitals in ASSMB

Medicai, the interoperable cloud platform that facilitates the storage and management of imaging data, announces a landmark collaboration with the Administration of Hospitals and Medical Services of Bucharest (ASSMB). Medicai has implemented its interoperable platform in all 17 public hospitals of the capital's administration.

The results, including over 800 cases created, over 60,000 imaging studies uploaded and the automation of imaging workflows with external organisations, all mark an important milestone in the digitalization of Romanian public hospitals and the improvement of the patient experience.

"Since we started using Medicai in the hospital, we finally felt that we were aligned with medical standards in France and Germany, where I have practiced surgery. Individually, it gives me flexibility in my schedule, the ability to work from anywhere, anytime, with easy access to all the imaging in the institution." - says Prof. Dr. Dragoș Predescu, General Surgeon - Sfânta Maria Clinical Hospital.

Doctors at ASSMB hospitals, open to innovation, have embraced the technology provided by Medicai in huge numbers - several thousand doctors have undergone training and are actively using the Medicai mobile app (iOS and Android) and web app.

In some of the ASSMB hospitals, Medicai has implemented digital tumor board workflows (multidisciplinary boards): Filantropia Clinical Hospital, Prof. Dr. Panait Sirbu Clinical Hospital, Colentina Clinical Hospital and Dr. Ion Cantacuzino Clinical Hospital.

Through Medicai, all the medical records of oncological patients are organised in one place and the medical team can access their content anytime and from anywhere.

"We started from the need to create a patient file that is easily accessible, allows information to be added to it as it accumulates, and makes it easy for any user to search (the file and within it). In addition, as we work with collaborators from other healthcare institutions, it is important for us to be able to securely share the information needed to make decisions. Medicai solves, in large part, our needs." - says Dr. Dragoș Median, Primary Physician in Medical Oncology at the Filantropia Clinical Hospital.

Records can be uploaded directly by patients, before they come to the consultation, via the public link provided by Medicai. This saves patients unnecessary trips and reduces waiting room congestion.

Hospitals such as "Dr. Victor Gomoiu" Children's Clinical Hospital, "Prof. Dr. Panait Sârbu" Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinical Hospital chose to encourage relatives to send them files (CT, MRI, X-rays, ultrasound and medical analysis, interpretations, medical reports in any format - pdf, word, png, jpeg, video) securely via Medicai. Patients who create a free account have access to the same files and are able to receive a response, as well as access to any other documents uploaded by the medical team. Here is an example of communication on the website of the Clinical Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynaecology "Prof. Dr. Panait Sârbu".

CDs brought in by patients are uploaded directly to the platform and stored in the hospital archive, helping doctors to compare the new investigation with the previous one using the built-in viewer.

Hospitals such as Colentina Clinical Hospital, "Dr. Ion Stoia" Clinical Centre for Rheumatic Diseases, "Dr. Victor Babes" Clinical Hospital for Infectious and Tropical Diseases have chosen to use the virtual space provided and save the content of the CDs in Medicai.

For hospitals with external imaging providers (Colentina Clinical Hospital - Affidea, "Carol Davila" Nephrology Clinical Hospital - Provita Medical Group, "Dr. Ion Stoia" Rheumatic Diseases Centre - Affidea) Medicai was able to create a secure connection to automatically transmit the imaging of ASSMB patients referred to these private clinics.

The patients' investigations, once performed, are transmitted in real-time to both the referring physician and the patient. This saves patients from having to carry CDs from one institution to another, which helps streamline the medical process and improve their experience.

The Medicai Platform has played a key role in the modernisation of the healthcare system in Bucharest. Thanks to its user-friendly interface and advanced features, doctors have been able to collaborate efficiently, streamline their workflows and improve patient care.

The success of the platform in the initial implementation phase demonstrates its ability to generate positive change in public health institutions.

“Our continued collaboration with the ASSMB exemplifies our shared vision of a modern, patient-centred healthcare system. We are excited about the opportunities this expanded partnership presents as we work together to complete the digitalization of Bucharest's public hospitals. Furthermore, Medicai sees this project as a start to the digitalization of the entire healthcare system in Romania. The hospitals in ASSMB, then the hospitals in Bucharest and the private healthcare providers in Bucharest, the other hospitals in the country and then the entire healthcare system at European level, in line with the European Health Data Space Directive." - said Mircea Popa, CEO of Medicai

Dragoș Nanuți, Head of Business Development at Medicai, expressed his confidence in this collaboration, saying, "Our partnership with ASSMB has already had a significant impact on the healthcare system in Bucharest. By accelerating the digitalization of public hospitals, we are taking a huge step towards providing the highest quality healthcare services to patients. This partnership expresses our commitment to advancing healthcare in Bucharest."

The extended collaboration will lead to the incorporation of additional features and capabilities into the Medicai platform, thus offering more possibilities to doctors of ASSMB. With advanced tools for securely sharing and analyzing medical images and data, the medical staff will be able to make more accurate diagnoses and treatment decisions, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes.

For the coming period, Medicai together with ASSMB aims to:

  • Start the Oncology Tumor Board streams in collaboration with Fundeni Institute and Bucharest Oncology Institute.
  • Interconnect the information now existing in Medicai with the patient portal (electronic patient records)

The collaboration between Medicai and ASSMB reflects the profound transformation that technology can bring to healthcare. Together, they are paving the way for a future where patients in Bucharest receive European-class care and where doctors have the tools they need to excel in their work.
